Part of My Story

I found myself in Worship Ministry by "accident"...when I was 16, me and my sister auditioned for a fundraising concert that our youth group was planning. Our youth pastor heard us singing and playing, and asked us to sing in the youth service the next week.

Nothing God does is an "accident".

From there, growth and ministry opportunities opened up for me.

Whether it was youth services, performance opportunities, weekend worship services, festivals, special events, or worship staff positions, I simply walked forward through most of the doors that opened.

About 10 years ago, during my time on the worship staff of a large church in the Charlotte, NC area, I was diagnosed with a partially paralyzed vocal cord.

I was surprised, concerned, worried, shocked, uncertain, and disappointed, among other things.

I began vocal rest and vocal therapy, and started to dig in and learn 1) how did this happen 2) how can I do my part to make sure this doesn't happen again

PRAISE THE LORD I made a full recovery. And what I learned through that process showed me what I had been doing wrong, and what to do right in order to sing better AND SAFER for as long as possible.

Again, nothing God does is an "accident"

As I healed and learned, I met other Worship Leaders and Worship Singers who were also experiencing vocal cord injuries or voice issues that were keeping them from singing and ministering to their full potential.

The vocal training side of worship ministry just isn't taught or passed down from Worship Leader to Worship Leader.

I want to change that.

Part of my mission has become to teach as many Worship Leaders and Worship Singers as I can how to sing better AND safer AND with the long term in mind.

Taking care of the gifts that the Lord has given us is an important part of the stewardship He has called us to.

Is it difficult at times? Yes

Is it hard work? Yes

Does it take some practice and commitment to stay diligent and consistent with it? Yes

But your voice = His ministry.

Take care of what you can, bring your best, and He will take care of the rest.

I'm committed to bringing my best, and I'm committed to supporting YOU as you work to do the same with your unique voice and ministry!

There's a really intriguing verse in the Bible that talks about bringing our "muchness" to God (Deuteronomy 6:5). I love the picture this paints - bringing our talents, our giftedness, our taste, our style, our past, our struggles, our mistakes, our wins, our hopes, every part of us TO HIM to use FOR HIM.
